International Rankings

UCLA ranks 9th in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings (2019). The reputation survey was completed by more than 10,000 senior academics from 138 countries.

Times Higher Education has a separate World University Ranking. In the latest edition (2021), UCLA is 15th in the world and number 2 among U.S. public universities.

UCLA ranks 13th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, based on faculty publications and citations and the number of alumni and faculty who have won major awards.

U.S. News & World Report introduced a Global Ranking in 2014. UCLA is number 14 in that ranking (2020).

National Rankings

U.S. News & World Report ranked UCLA first among public universities (2021) and 20th overall among national universities.

Washington Monthly, which measures access, social commitment and the importance of research as a major driver of the economy and quality of life, ranked UCLA 11th (2020) in the U.S.

The New York Times puts UCLA 5th in its College Access Index, ranking the top schools doing the most for low-income students.

The Center for Measuring University Performance puts UCLA among the nation’s top research universities: 12th in total research expenditures, 8th in producing doctorates (2018).

Graduate & Doctoral Program Rankings

In 2010 (its most recent rankings), the National Research Council placed a number of UCLA graduate and doctoral research programs in its highest ranks. Of the 59 UCLA programs considered, 40 placed in the range that extended into the top 10.

Hospital Rankings

According to U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Hospital Honor Roll, UCLA Health ranks as number one in Los Angeles and number four nationally (tied). UCLA’s nationally recognized programs based in Westwood and in Santa Monica have earned top 10 rankings in 13 specalities, up from 12 last year. And Newsweek recently ranked Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center among the best hospitals in the world.

UCLA hospitals have been designated among the nation’s “most wired” institutions in a survey by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine.
